Creative process and style:
How do you characterize your musical style?
The music I love and play is evolving, dancing, acidic, sweet. A mix between
Detroit techno and Berlin techno. Between ghettotech and electro.
What genres of music inspire you the most and influence your creativity?
I have a big ADHD. So, I would say that the type of music that speaks to me
must be very stimulating, mentally and physically.
Paradoxically, the music that inspires me is generally not a repetitive music.
The genres that influence a lot my creativity are Rap, Soul, Electro (mainly)
but it all depends. I am very versatile, I like to move from one genre to
another during my listening sessions.
What is your approach to mixing and mixing songs in your set?
I am an architect by training and surprisingly my approach to mixing is not
far from the way I build a project. I assemble sounds from different origins
and merge them.
My goal is to create bubbles, sound spaces where each piece is important
and has its own function.
I like the fact that sometimes, starting a set becomes a brain teaser. I like to
find the missing piece that makes my point of view understandable.
Experience and background:
What were the most significant moments of your career that shaped your
development??
Every gig for me is a significant event. Every gig reminds me that I am lucky
to be able to share and do what I love.
Aspects techniques:
What equipment and software do you prefer for your performances?
Obviously I have preferences. But to tell the truth, as long as my booths
returns on stage works well… and as long as I eat a chewing gum before
going on stage, I’m ready to defy the impossible !
Trends and developments:
How do you adapt to changes in the music industry and audiences when
performing?
Flexibility is how I survive the unpredictability of the public !
If the public wants techno, I have it. If he wants house, I’ll show up with my
groove machine. And if they want TikTok trends, well, they’ll have to go see
someone else.
But seriously, I’m here to make sure everyone in front of me has a good
time, what is left is easy !
Individual preferences:
How do you choose music for your personal listening in your daily life?
The main thing is that the music I listen resonates with myself, that it raises
emotions in me. I always trust my instinct : if it makes me vibrate, then it’s in
my playlist.
I spend my time listening to random playlists that I don’t know any tracks
or I listen to the radio. I almost never choose the music that reaches my ears.
Sometimes I make an effort and I look for the name of an artist or album
that I want to listen to. But to be honest, this rarely happens.
Perception of music:
What role do you think music plays in people’s lives today?
Music is everywhere. It helps us express our emotions, connect with each
other and create memories.
Music is much more than just a sound, it is a faithful companion that
guides us in all situations of life. It has the power to connect us to each
other, to transport us to the past or even to project us into the future.
Do you think music should evoke certain emotions or should it just be
relaxing/entertaining?
I think that music can be whatever you want it to be. Everyone makes
music a personal story, and everyone feels it in their own way. There is
nothing wrong with that.
Music scene and community:
How do you assess the state of the current music scene?
Ah, the current music scene is buzzing! There’s so much diversity and
innovation right now, it’s really exciting. We see new genres and new artists
emerging. I think music has never been more vibrant and dynamic.
Personal habits and sources of inspiration:
Do you have certain rituals or habits that help you in the creative process?
My creation ritual? Simple: I make sure to empty the coffee maker before I
even sit down at my desk.
What things in your daily life help you maintain a balance between your
personal life and your work as a DJ?
Apparently balance is key. Someone told me that it’s important to find time
for friends and family, to practice yoga to keep my mind and body in
harmony, and most importantly, to know when to take a break and
recharge. I was told that I had to do all that and lots of other things… But I’ve
never tried it so I don’t know if it works.
Past and future:
What factors influence your choice to collaborate with certain labels or
clubs?
To collaborate with a label or club, what influences me is above all the
artistic and personal connections that we can create together. I am looking
for labels and clubs that share my artistic vision and are willing to support
my creativity. I also look for partners who understand and respect my
introversion.
Music creation and creative decisions:
How do you usually start creating a new song or set? Where to start ?
Building a set, in my opinion, must absolutely tell a story : I start with a
simple idea and I develop it by adding layers of music and textures.
I always start with a thorough exploration of my library, looking for pieces
that resonate with my current mood. Once I have a selection of pieces that
speak to me, I start arranging them in an order that creates momentum.
This is how I start building my scenario !
Public awareness and energy at events:
How do you react to negative or unexpected situations during a
performance?
People are in front of me to have fun, not to watch a show of people
panicking. If an unforeseen or negative event happens, I try to be calm: the
objective is to minimize disruption and guarantee a positive experience for
the public.
If the decks decide to strike or if the public launches into an anti-dance
rebellion, I’m ready to improvise because believe me, I’ve faced worse.
Industry Overview :
Do you think it’s important for a DJ to have a unique sound or style in
today’s industry?
I don’t know if having a unique sound or style is really important nowaday.
But I think mostly for some of us it’s just a matter of luck and timing, let’s be
honest, sometimes you just need to have a catchy stage name and a good
sense of timing to go viral.
What do you think about current trends and their impact on electronic
music?
It’s true that we can now make music with a smartphone and an app. But
hey, that’s good, it gives us more choice ! But we’re not going to lie, for me
techno is an experience to share in reality. The real connection is made obviously on the dancefloor! 🙂
